Beginning on June 1, 2015, I started counting my calories and generally trying to lose weight. My goal was to drop from 260 to 200lbs in one year, concluding on June 1, 2016. It’s a lofty goal for anyone, especially someone like me who has been battling obesity since elementary school.
While I ultimately fell short of my goal, I did lose a whopping 48lbs during that year, which is still something that I’m proud of. My progress will continue, but a year of counting calories and being more active (without ever setting foot in a gym) has helped me to establish a healthier lifestyle that I can carry on throughout the rest of my life.
During my year of weight loss, I blogged several times to share my progress, things that I had learned, and ways that I was able to stay motivated:
- On Weight Loss – July 11, 2015
- More on Weight Loss – August 18, 2015
- Even More on Weight Loss – April 30, 2016
- Yet More on Weight Loss – June 1, 2016
It’s my hope that my story can help others be comfortable in their own skin. I’m not a dietician or nutritionist, nor was I targeting a lean, muscular body; I’m just an overweight twenty-something who wants to stop being ashamed of himself any time he can’t hide behind a bulky hoodie.
If you have questions, want to share your story, or help get motivated, please get in touch. I’m also more than happy to connect on MyFitnessPal and Fitbit.
