www.bowlinggreen-oh.com/newsletterThe Bowling Green Community Development Foundation helps bring new industry to Bowling Green. In late 2009, I was tasked with building a flexible HTML newsletter system to be installed into their existing content management system.
The system is comprised of two main elements: a newsletter creation tool and a list management utility. The newsletter tool allows users to select from two templates (a full newsletter and a smaller, memo-like arrangement), each with different types of content. The list management tool lets the users sort subscribers into different groups, making it easy to target newsletters/memos to specific people.
The system dynamically creates SEO-friendly, static archive copies for the public newsletters, as well as well-formatted plain text versions. Both versions of the newsletter are sent in the email, ensuring that mail clients without HTML support will still display the message in a readable form.
